Raj Sangha renews One Stop Franchise contract for another 5 years & celebrates with refit.
One Stop Jerry’s Lane, a much-loved community store, has undergone a significant £100,000 refit to coincide with its 25th anniversary and was officially opened today by MP Paulette Hamilton and store owner, Raj Sangha.
The community helped celebrate with Raj and his nine strong team during a special opening event on Saturday 3rd August, with a bouncy castle, face painting and a chef cooking up delights for the streams of visitors eager to see the new look store. Raj has also been running a charity raffle, with proceeds going directly to the local school.
Over his 25 years in retail, Raj’s store is not just a place to shop; it has become a significant community hub. Raj has actively supported local schools and charities, raising substantial funds for various causes from £6k for the Birmingham Hospice to £1,500 for a critically sick child needing treatment. “We’ve always believed in giving back to the community that supports us,” Raj explains. “From local school events to fundraising for care homes, we are committed to making a positive impact.”
John Miller, Head of Franchise at One Stop comments: “Our congratulations to Raj and all his team for achieving this exciting milestone and the reopening of his store after such an extensive refit.
“We have worked with Raj for a decade, and we know how dedicated he is to the local community and making a standout store for them to feel proud of. We’re delighted to have signed him for another five-year contract and look forward to helping him drive further success in everything he does.”

With an investment of over £100,000, the 2,500sqft store now boasts new flooring, upgraded lighting, a fresh storefront and the internal layout switched around for a completely modern update. The changes are designed to create a more welcoming and spacious environment for the local community.
Raj explains, “We’ve previously extended the store and are always making changes here and there, however with £75k of the funding supported by One Stop we felt it was time to give the store an entirely new refit and refresh the look and feel”
Raj’s store is one of One Stop’s top five retailers for online sales. With the huge growth of this sales channel within modern retailing the store has factored into its design a better package area to accommodate this. At the same time, it has enhanced features for a greater shopping experience for upwards of 850 visitors the team welcomes into store every week.
In addition to the aesthetic improvements, subtle anti-theft measures have been introduced. Raj has implemented advanced CCTV systems, including cameras at the entrance and throughout the aisles. “The new security features are designed to deter theft and ensure a safe shopping environment for our customers,” Raj comments. ” As you walk in, the first thing you see is your face, so anyone walking in knows they are visible. While we can’t eliminate theft entirely, these measures will help reduce it significantly.”
Raj’s decision to renew his contract for another five years shows the confidence he has in the One Stop franchise model.
“The One Stop model is probably one of the best out there. And for me it really works,” says Raj. “The stock range is extensive and the support from the head office, including the trial team and Business Development Managers is great. Overall, the system works brilliantly for us and provides us with a model that truly supports community-focused retail.”
In store customers can enjoy a week of promotions – which One Stop is renowned for – and, to coincide with the opening, there will be special online promos such as free delivery or 10p bundles for shoppers to enjoy!
