Thornaby retailer aims to fly high with new One Stop venture

28 August 2015

A brand new convenience store in Thornaby will officially open its doors this Friday (28 August), to complete the stunning rejuvenation of a derelict old pub site. The opening of the old Spitfire pub on Tranchard Avenue is part of a major investment in the town by the Sangha family, which represents an outlay of several hundred thousands of pounds and will create around 30 jobs for the local community.

The new shopping parade has been completely re-developed by the Sangha family and will include a One Stop convenience store, a fish and chip shop, Coral’s bookmakers and a hairdressing salon. Already established fish and chip shop and pharmacy operators, this latest venture marks the family’s first foray into neighbourhood convenience retailing. Having been impressed by its stores in the north east, Paul Sangha sees the One Stop franchise model as the perfect partner to ease them into this new field. One Stop’s franchise operation offers independent retailers the opportunity to continue owning and running their own store, whilst benefiting from its successful brand, range, promotions and ways of working.

With a sales area of 1,800 sq ft, it’s ideally located to serve the main estate surrounding its locality and will be operated by Paul’s son Sat, whilst his other son Steven will run the fish & chip shop. The store features PayPoint, Lottery and a free to use ATM, in addition to the usual selection of chilled, frozen & ambient ranges, off-licence, One Stop’s great meal deals and a raft of regularly changing offers.

To celebrate its re-opening, One Stop working with The Spitfire will hold a launch party on Friday 28 August between 12pm and 2pm, featuring a face painter, free food and drink and goody bags. The Sangha family is already a strong supporter of local charities and intends to strengthen its links following the relaunch.

New One Stop Franchisee Paul Sangha, stated:
“We’re incredibly excited to have finally completed this development. It’s been a major investment for us, but we couldn’t have done it without the ongoing support and expertise that One Stop has provided. The feedback from our customers so far has been amazing – they’re delighted by our fresh, modern shopping experience that also provides them with excellent value for money. It’s great to have played such an important part in helping to rejuvenate this area.”

John Miller, One Stop Franchise’s Head of Operations, revealed:
“It’s fantastic to see what the Sangha family have done with this site, which has even included them doing some of the building work itself. The store is in a great location and is set to become the central hub of the community. Customers can get their day to day shopping from the new store, as well as a great selection of local products. I’m confident that this will be another One Stop franchise success story!”

The new One Stop store will be open Monday to Saturday from 7.00am to 10.00pm and from 8.00am to 10.00pm on Sundays.
