Sales opportunity pops up for One Stop Franchisees

A Barton-upon-Humber retailer has become the first franchisee to take advantage of One Stop’s innovative pop up shop, which was launched by the group just over two years ago. One Stop has relaunched its ‘mini store’, following requests from its franchisees to have a trading solution throughout their refits.

Rakhee Patel’s store is located on Fleetgate, in the North Lincolnshire town that’s at the southern end of the Humber Bridge. The store is currently undergoing a major refit and expansion, as part of its transition to become a One Stop. With the building work expected to take over three weeks, One Stop’s pop up shop presented the ideal solution to minimise the impact on the local community and has been trading on site for the last week. Aimed at satisfying essential day to day needs, the pop up shop provides customers with key grocery and household items, chilled food and drinks, confectionery and snacks, and even features the One Stop lunchtime meal deal at 3 for £3.

Rakhee and her husband Tesh have run the store for the last 15 years, although it’s been within the family for 30 years. Having visited their cousin’s store in Temple View, Leeds, they decided that One Stop Franchise was the best option for the future of the business, to allow them to develop the store and offer a better range for customers. They plan to extend the sales area of the store from 1,000 sq ft to 1,600 sq ft and will extend their opening hours once the store is open, from 6.00am to 10.00pm every day; the store previously closed at 9.00pm daily.

One Stop Franchisee Rakhee Patel, stated:
“The pop up shop has helped us to maintain our newspaper rounds and in turn retain those jobs for the delivery staff. We’ve also managed to continue being the service point for the community, by integrating our PayPoint and Lottery terminals into the unit. It was important to extend our store, but we were worried about losing trade for such a long period. The pop up shop allows us to continue serving our customers on a daily basis, keep them informed on how the building work is progressing and ensure that they’re not too disrupted by the changes. It’s great to be the first franchisee to use One Stop’s pop up shop and it’s already become a real talking point in the town.”

John Miller, One Stop Franchise’s Head of Operations, commented:
“We’re delighted to be able to extend this service to our franchisees, as it gives them the option of providing a core product range throughout any extended closures. Having completed a large number of refits within our franchise estate, it’s never popular to have to close a store. If it’s for a short period of time, customers do understand, even though it’s still a challenge to recoup the lost trade. But any lengthier closures demand that the store carries on trading, even if it’s from a much smaller footprint. Our pop up shop presents a good brand image whilst the store is closed, with a balanced range on offer. We’ve already got a number of stores booked in for the solution and we know it’s going to be a great service to offer as we continue to expand our franchise estate.”

The refurbished store in Barton is set to re-open on Friday 18 September, with an official launch day taking place the following day.
