One Stop Franchise team builds with latest appointment

21 May 2014

The former head of retail operations for 99p Stores has joined the expanding One Stop Franchise division. Sunil Kumar, who was responsible for the Family Bargains fascia, joins the team as a Business Development Manager, with the remit of growing existing franchisees’ businesses, as well as bringing new retailers on board.

Sunil brings over fourteen years of retailing experience to One Stop, the majority of which has been accumulated within the fast-paced, low cost, discount retailing sector, having worked for the likes of Matalan, Poundstretcher and B&M Retail. Most recently his role at 99p Stores provided Sunil with the opportunity to set the retail strategy for the group’s larger format, out of town, discount stores. A proven retail operator, Sunil’s background across various store formats, as well as solid experience of all central office functions, will be invaluable in his new role.

Sunil’s appointment brings the team of Business Development Managers (BDMs) to seven in total, as One Stop continues to create the infrastructure to reflect its business growth. As recently announced, the team will be led by John Miller, the group’s new Head of Retail Operations for Franchise. John will commence his role on 21 May and will also be responsible for a team of Launch Support Managers and the retail support centre for franchise.

Andrew King, newly appointed Franchise Director, stated:
“We’re delighted to welcome Sunil to One Stop, as our franchise offer gains further momentum. Sunil brings great experience in the discount retail sector with several different operators. We’re building a team that has wide retail knowledge and our BDMs complement each other with their different strengths. Having raised the bar considerably with our retailers so far, we look forward to continuing to deliver a great proposition.”

Pip Wilkins, the British Franchise Association’s head of operations, said:
“Sustainable franchise businesses need strong, experienced leaders in their central office team in order to support and manage the network properly as it grows. One Stop has shown that it takes its commitment to its franchisees seriously by appointing a number of knowledgeable retail experts, putting the right structure in place for the long-term as it expands its franchise operations.”
