One Stop completes conversion of Alfred Jones’ stores as sales surge ahead

One Stop Stores Limited has completed the conversion of the 33 stores it recently acquired from Alfred Jones (Warrington) Ltd, with stores already achieving their sales targets six months ahead of schedule.

The refurbishments mark the end of a remarkable first phase of the stores’ integration into One Stop, which has demonstrated the group’s expertise in all aspects of convenience. When the initial purchase was completed at the end of October, within the space of two days the One Stop team had installed EPoS in every store; trained all colleagues on the new tills and back office; carried out inductions for all store managers on both operations and leadership, as well as buddying them up with colleagues in the existing estate; and ensured that all colleagues had successfully completed bronze, silver and gold modules via its e-learning training facility.

At the same time, One Stop introduced its pricing structure and promotions into the stores and began the process of clearing old stock, to allow the store to re-open with a fresh new range. This planned programme ensured that stock was cleared with minimal reductions, whilst still offering customers a good deal. All 33 sites were subsequently converted to One Stop convenience stores during a 51 day period, with the final four stores re-opening their doors to customers at the end of last week. The refurbishments have completely transformed the stores and the majority now feature expanded chilled and frozen ranges. The next phase within the integration involves customer service training for all colleagues, a vital aspect within One Stop stores.

The feedback from customers so far has been extremely positive, commenting that they love the promotional offers and that their store is bright and fresh to shop in. The significant price deflation has also been well received – One Stop’s prices are generally up to 25% cheaper – and sales have already increased by 30%.
